Exponential Formula for Bedload Transport
An exponential formula that does not involve the concept of the critical shear stress is derived in this study for computing bedload transport rates. The formula represents well various experimental data sets ranging from the weak transport to high shear conditions. Comparisons of the present study are also made with many previous bedload formulas commonly cited in the literature.
متن کاملFluid Properties Effects on Sand Production using Discrete Element Method
Oil production may be accompanied by Sand Production (SP) in the weak sandstone reservoirs. Fluid flow is an important factor in transporting the separated grains and completing the SP mechanism. In this paper, the effect of fluid parameters, fluid flow, and fluid pressure on the SP is investigated by applying the Discrete Element Method (DEM). Parametric studies show that fluid velocity is red...
متن کاملMultiphase Debris Flow Simulations with the Discrete Element Method Coupled with a Lattice-boltzmann Fluid
Debris flows are dangerous natural hazards that occur mainly in mountainous terrains after heavy rainfall, responsible for casualties and damages reported yearly worldwide. Their heterogeneous composition, with a viscoplastic fluid and the presence of a relevant granular solid phase, leads to a non-trivial behaviour making them a challenging problem both for the physical description of the phen...
متن کاملA Coupled Discrete/Continuum Model for Describing Cancer-Therapeutic Transport in the Lung
We propose a computational simulation framework for describing cancer-therapeutic transport in the lung. A discrete vascular graph model (VGM) is coupled to a double-continuum model (DCM) to determine the amount of administered therapeutic agent that will reach the cancer cells. An alveolar cell carcinoma is considered. The processes in the bigger blood vessels (arteries, arterioles, venules an...
متن کاملMesoscale fluid-particle interaction using two-way coupled SPH and the Discrete Element Method
We present a meshless simulation method for multiphase fluid-particle systems using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) and the Discrete Element Method (DEM). Rather than fully resolving the interstitial fluid, which is often infeasible, we use an unresolved fluid model based on the locally averaged Navier Stokes equations. A variable-h SPH formulation is used to calculate the fluid phase, wh...
